What does 'Anyone with the link' mean, and why is it the default?

Anyone with the link means anyone you send the link to can view your wishlist, but it's not on your profile, not browsable, and not indexed — so it's easy to share yet stays low-key.

Written by Wishpicks

Anyone with the link means anyone who has the link can open and view your wishlist — but it doesn't show on your profile, it isn't browsable on Wishpicks, and search engines don't index it. It's the default for every new wishlist because it makes sharing easy while keeping the list out of public view.

What "Anyone with the link" does

  • Anyone with the link can open the list and see it, without signing in. They get a read-only view and can't add, edit, or delete anything.

  • The list does not appear on your public profile.

  • It's not listed in any browse or feed on Wishpicks, and search engines don't index it — see "Will my wishlist show up on Google?"

People only reach it if you hand them the link. No link, no access.

Why it's the default

Most people make a wishlist to share it — with family, friends, or a group planning a gift. Anyone with the link lets you copy a link and drop it in a message or a chat, and the other person can open it right away with no account and nothing to set up. At the same time, the list stays off your profile and out of search, so it isn't sitting in the open for anyone to stumble onto.

Tips

  • The link points to the wishlist's address on Wishpicks. Anyone you send it to can open it and pass it on, so share it with people you're comfortable seeing the list.

  • Want it stricter? Switch to Invite only so only you and people you invite by email can see it — see "How to make a wishlist private".

  • Want it on your profile? Switch to Public — see "How to make a wishlist public".

This setting is about who can view the list. Inviting someone to help edit it is separate, and you don't need to change visibility to add collaborators.
